The Designers & Artists 4 Genomics Award highlights and explores the
exciting and novel possibilities between design, artistic practice and
Life Sciences. Inaugurated by the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, the
Centre for Society and Genomics, and Waag Society, the Designers &
Artists 4 Genomics Award aims to stimulate emerging designers and
artists to delve into the world of bio-art, and produce new work in
close collaboration with the Netherlands most prestigious Genomics
Centres, for example in the field of sustainability, food, health,
bio-informatics, agriculture, and safety.

Due to its success in 2010 the Designers & Artists 4 Genomics Award
(DA4GA) will experience its second edition in 2011. The excellent
results of the first edition are on show at Natrualis, Leiden until
January 8th 2012.

American Synesthesia Association conference at UCSD in October 2011
The Board Members of the ASA are pleased to announce that the Ninth Annual National Meeting of the American Synesthesia Association, Inc., will take place October 14 thru 16, 2011, at the University of California San Diego. The conference will take place in the Garren Auditorium located in the Biomedical Sciences Building on the School of Medicine Campus.
The conference will be hosted by Dr. Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition and Professor in the Psychology Department and David Brang of the Psychology Department, and made possible by the Board Members of the ASA, Sean Day, Lawrence E. Marks, and Carol Steen.
The Board Members of the ASA invite the submission of abstracts from individuals wishing to make a presentation on any of the following: a scholarly paper, a discussion of creative aspects of synesthesia, a reading, a presentation of visual artwork, audio compositions, or video presentations. If you are interested in being considered for a presentation, please submit an abstract, no longer than 250 words.
Include your name, e-mail address, telephone contact number, and a short resume (no more than two pages) or web-link to same. The number of presentation slots will be limited, so there is no guarantee that a submission can be accepted. Individuals are urged to attend even if they do not intend to make a presentation. Please also list any audio/visual equipment; including podium and microphone that you might need for your presentation. Please plan to limit your presentation to 20 minutes (not including an additional 5 minutes for Questions & Answers) in length.
Our abstract review board is representative of the diverse interests, talents, and approaches to exploring and experiencing synesthesia. It includes artists, linguists, historians, and scientists, some of whom are synesthetes themselves.

4Humanities Stipends for International Correspondents:
4Humanities is seeking up to three bilingual or multilingual graduate students (or early-career researchers) from outside Australia, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. who would each receive an honorarium of 450 Canadian dollars for contributing at least one online post per month for a term of one year to the 4Humanities site.
The posts will report on events, policies, statements, and issues relating to the state of the humanities or advocacy for the humanities in the student’s or researcher’s country. Correspondents must be able to write their posts bilingually, in the language of their country and also with an English version.

EMYAN (Euro-Med Young Artists Network) Online Arts Festival
Since its establishment, EMYAN (Euro-Med Young Artists Network) Online
Arts Festival advocates web 2.0 models of producing and sharing
artistic creativity. And by showcasing the richness of artistic
practices, it tries to strengthen cultural exchanges in the Euro-Med
region.
The call for entries is open to young artists (up to 30 years old)
from Europe, the Mediterranean and the Arab world who wish to submit

New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME)
(Oslo, May 30- June 1) and Exhibition of Sonic Interaction Design
(SID) in Summer 2011 (Oslo, May 29-August 29)
New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) is an International Conference that encompasses the latest results in design, development, performance and analysis of/for/with new interfaces/instruments for musical use.
In connection with NIME 2011 an exhibition on Sonic Interaction Design will be curated in collaboration with the EU COST IC0601 Action on Sonic Interaction Design (SID). Works using sonic interaction within arts, music and design as well as examples of sonification for research and artistic purposes will be the focus of the exibition which will take place at the Norwegian Museum of Science, Technology and Medicine and run for three months over the Summer 2011 (opening 29th May ‘11).

The Roberto Cimetta Fund and Marseille-Provence 2013 announce an upcoming selection date for the joint RCF/Marseille-Provence 2013 Mobility Fund in 2010. The Fund is open to individual artists and cultural professionals who need to travel in the Euro-Mediterranean zone and who are preparing a project that is linked to Marseille-Provence as a geographical area or to the Marseille-Provence 2013 Capital of Culture year. IMéRA / Marseille-Provence ECOC 2013
In a partnership Marseille Provence 2013 and IMéRA will welcome an
artist in residence in 2011/12 to work on a project specifically
conceived to complete the «GR 13 Hiking Trail project».
The Hiking Trail Project consists in the creation of a trail between
Arles and Toulon for a 12-day travel on foot, crossing natural and
urbanized, preserved and industrialized places. The trail will be
co-drawn by several artists-walkers, the path marking, the guidebooks
(and hopefully smartphone applications) will be objects of artistic
commissions.
The artist will work with local researchers in order to complete the
conception and realization of his project. IMERA will help identify
interested local scientists and establish required collaborations.

Bridges 2011: A 5-Day Conference and Excursion
The Bridges Conferences, running annually since 1998, brings together practicing mathematicians, scientists, artists, educators, musicians, writers, computer scientists, sculptors, dancers, weavers, and model builders in a lively atmosphere of exchange and mutual encouragement. Important components of these conferences, in addition to formal presentations, are hands-on workshops, gallery displays of visual art, working sessions with artists who are crossing the mathematics-arts boundaries, and musical/theatrical events in the evenings.
The conference will feature presentations of regular, plenary, and short papers, as well as several workshops. The program for the conference is composed from a combination of submitted and invited presentations.

New MFA in Art and Ecology at the University of New Mexico
The new MFA program in Art and Ecology at the University of New Mexico is an interdisciplinary, research-based program engaging contemporary art practices. Students develop ecological and cultural literacy with a conceptual foundation and a wide range of production skills, including sculpture, social practice, and digital media. Students in Art and Ecology have the opportunity to work on various collaborative and interdisciplinary projects with departments across UNM and on comprehensive thesis projects integrating community and ecological research. Coursework includes the Land Arts of the American West program, a semester-long travel and place-based arts pedagogy.
